USU Extension Services 4-H Program

Description
4-H is a vibrant youth education program for boys and girls ages 8-18 which emphasizes learning through doing.  Volunteer 4-H club leaders encourage youth to gain knowledge and practical life skills while completing projects and activities in any area of interest.  Members may also participate in fairs, contests, camps, tours, participation days, exchanges both national and international, and special area and state-wide events.  The ultimate goal of the 4-H program is to help each boy and girl develop the positive personal assets needed to live successfully in a diverse and changing world.

Volunteer Opportunities
4-H Club Leaders Lead and direct a 4-H club comprised of children or young people in designing and completing projects and programs in various fields, such as citizenship and leadership development, communication and expressive arts, clothing and textiles, food and nutrition, public speaking, gardening, healthy lifestyles, animals or science.   Leaders take their talents or learn new ones and share them with youth. Clubs can be organized as individuals working with one or two youth, family, neighborhood or community clubs.
Community Coordinator Recruit new 4-H members and leaders, identify community resources.  Prior experience with the 4-H program or 4-H alumni preferred.
Camp Leader Work with teens to prepare for 4-H camp, and assist with camp activities.
Special Program Leader Assist with short and long term projects in various areas of interest.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Leaders must be at least 21 years of age
  • Background check may be required depending on volunteer assignment
  • 4-H is open to all interested youth and adults regardless of race, color, sex, creed, national origin or disability.

Training & Support
The Extension Services' professional staff provides training and support for volunteers and is responsible for program direction.  Volunteers have access to resources, research and information form Utah State University.
