Healthy Aging
Description
The Healthy Aging Program teaches seniors how to prevent illness by improving
their lifestyle through a variety of health education topics. It also
offers free clinics to screen senior citizens for possible health concerns such
as cancer, blood pressure, glaucoma, and hearing defects, as well as administers
flu shots.

Volunteer Opportunities
Health Care Provider Participate in clinics to screen elderly patients
for a variety of possible health concerns, such as cancer, high blood pressure,
glaucoma, hearing defects and diabetes. Also administer flu shots.
Podiatrist Conduct podiatry clinics around the Salt Lake
metropolitan area. Healthy Aging also needs RN's to help provide Blood Pressure
and Blood Sugar Screenings at Senior Centers and Housing Units. This takes
as little as 1 1/2 to 2 hours a month.
Health Educator Conduct health education classes on a
variety of topics from stress management to the prevention and early detection
of cancer.
Nutritionist Conduct classes on nutrition and food safety.
Physical Fitness Expert Conduct physical fitness and
exercise classes.
Clerk Assist with intake and general office work at screening
clinics or at the administrative office.
Volunteer Requirements
* Volunteers, excepting clerks, must be at least 18 years of age.
* Direct service providers and educators must have education and/or experience
in the field (i.e., have a professional license or be a matriculated student
in the particular field of study, for example, in nursing). Internships
are available for matriculated students.
* Clerical volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. No prior
experience is necessary.
Training & Support
Training will be provided on the job.
