Senior Companions
Description
Senior Companions are trained older adult volunteers who provide personal assistance,
prepare light meals, read and write letters, and perform other similar activities
to help maintain the frail elderly in their own homes. Senior Companions
are also trained to provide respite care to help families cope with caring for
their elderly loved ones.

Volunteer Opportunities
Senior Companion Perform light housekeeping tasks such
as prepare meals and other similar activities to help maintain the frail elderly
in their own homes. May also provide respite care to help families cope
with caring for their elderly loved ones. Those who volunteer at least
20 hours a week receive a non-taxable stipend of $2.55 per hour, transportation
reimbursement and other helpful benefits.
Volunteer Requirements
* Must be at least 60 years of age
* Must meet income guidelines: 1-person household $940 per month, 2-person
household, $1,266 per month.
* Commitment to serve 20 hours a week.
Training & Support
Volunteers receive 40 hours of initial orientation, and thereafter 4 hours of
in-service each month on a variety of educational topics. Additional training
is available through the Utah Mentor Network.
