Senior Transportation

Description
Senior Transportation Program utilizes volunteers as drivers to provide
rides for seniors with no available means of transportation to essential services,
such as doctor's or dentist's appointments, grocery shopping, to visit a loved
one in a nursing home, or the pharmacy.
Volunteer Opportunities
Driver: Assist seniors seniors with no available means
of transportation by driving them to doctor's or dentist's appointments, grocery
shopping, to visit loved ones or to the pharmacy
Volunteer Requirements for drivers
* Current Utah Class "D" drivers license
* Personal car insurance as required by the State of Utah
* Reliable vehicle with current registration and inspection
* Personal background free from theft or violent behavior
* Clean driving record
* Completion of defensive driving course

There are also opportunities for those who want to help transportation
but do not necessarily want to drive. High school age students are eligible
for these opportunities. Senior Transportation needs people to answer
incoming calls and schedule rides for the seniors. This would require a commitment
of a ½ day, one day a week or more.

Training & Support
Salt Lake County Aging services provides orientation training and hands on training
in addition to free defensive driving course and assist in completing any paperwork
that is required. All drivers are taken on a long drive and provided with information
and support systems prior to beginning volunteering.
