Health Access Project
Health Access Project (HAP) is a community partnership that works to develop a more effective system for providing health care to low-income, uninsured residents of Salt Lake County. HAP's goals are to:

Maintain a network of over 600 volunteer physicians who provide donated medical care to low-income, uninsured residents of Salt Lake County.

Assist clients in enrolling in public health plans, obtaining free or low cost medications and low-cost healthcare.

And provide translation services for medical appointments when necessary.

To achieve those goals, HAP is seeking volunteers to help with the functions listed below (position descriptions are broad and not limited to listed activites):
Case Management
-
Determine eligibility of potential clients, provide case management services, monitor and provide patient statistics, and develop a cultural awareness and utilize second-language materials.
Administrative Support
-
Perform extensive data entry, direct internal and external flow of correspondence, and create and maintain various databases.
Interpretation Coordination
-
Interpret for Spanish-speaking patients during medical appointments, arrange for interpreter services for patients who speak languages other than Spanish, and foster positive relations within ethnic communities living in Salt Lake County
Volunteers are asked to commit 3-5 hours each week for a
6 month period. These hours can be completed anytime between
8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

New Roots Project Internships
New Roots of Utah is a farming program under Utah Refugee Pathways to Self-Sufficiency which strives to empower refugees through part-time entrepreneurial activities. The purpose of this project is to build a healthier community through the development of a small-scale, urban training farm and community gardens in Salt Lake City.
New Roots currently has volunteer opportunities, as well as two unpaid internship opportunities.
Education Assistant
-
Intern will assist in teaching classes to various refugee communities. We have refugees from Chin (Burma), Burundi (Africa), Bhutan, Congo, Cuba, Chad, and Iraq. Applicants fluent in a language native to any of these regions will be very helpful.

Assist with translating materials into languages other than English and creating workbooks for refugee participants.

Help coordinate and organize class schedules, secure classroom space, and make other preparations as needed.
Garden Assistant
-
Assist with garden and greenhouse projects on Saturdays and during the week.

Assist Program Coordinator with planning and leading activities with refugees and volunteers.

Oversee and/or assist with volunteer recruitment, management and retention.

Assist with planting and maintaining demonstration gardens.

Keep current, accurate and detailed records of volunteers, volunteer hours, irrigation controls, and related activities.
